Would it be smarter for the Cardinals to lock up Adam Wainwright instead of Albert Pujols?

They may be able to get Pujols at a bargain rate. By that I just mean a non-record contract as the Red Sox and Yankees and phillies for that matter are solid at that position. Yankees could sign him as a DH, though.
